Inside Sales Representative-SVENDSEN'S MARINE & IND SUPPLY-Alameda

Svendsen’s Marine and Industrial Supply, located in Alameda on the waters of the Oakland Estuary, is seeking an Inside Sales Representative who will be responsible for maximizing product sales while growing the company’s customer base. The ideal candidate will be one who knows boats (power and sail), is mechanically inclined or understands the mechanical aspects of boating and that which powers boats, has a passion for boating, may have even been in a similar role within another organization, and is one who has a drive and a passion for learning even more than what you already know about boating!
The Inside Sales Rep assists walk-in and phone-in customers on product selection, and performs sales/return transactions.This Rep will be expected to develop a strong working knowledge of our extensive inventory of 50,000 products, and to participate at regional boat shows and special sales events when needed.
Responsibilities:
- Achieve high sales volume through effective phone and in-person sales technique.
- Ensure that each sale is maximized by recommending accessories, related products, etc.
- Ensure that every commitment made to the customer, including product availability, delivery date, etc., is achieved to the customer’s satisfaction.
- Assist walk-in and phone-in customers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
- Fully learn and understand the Company’s range of products, services and policies.
- Offer product-specific support to customers and installers.
- Understand and cross-sell the company’s other services to customers when applicable.
- Effectively close deals and process payments.
- Create and manage sales orders/quotes for current and new opportunities.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and presentable work environment
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years or recent retail sales experience preferred.
- High school degree or CA GED
- Outstanding oral, written, and communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to communicate technical product knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience using and adapting to ERP/CRM systems, (Spruce POS experience preferred)
Requirements:
- Reliability and punctuality are crucial to this position.
- Existing knowledge of marine and industrial supply products, including any or all of the following: coatings (above and below the waterline), abrasives and system components (electrical, plumbing, rigging, hardware, sanitation and engines).
- Prior work experience in the maritime services or products industry.
- Hands-on knowledge of power and/or sailboats and their related mechanical systems.
- Ability to communicate and interact with a culturally diverse customer-base and workforce .
- Excellent time management and organizational skills necessary to manage the territory, multiple tasks, and deliverables.
- The ability to lift 25 pounds
