MATERIAL CONTROL SPECIALIST Bay Ship & Yacht is a full service shipyard located on San Francisco Bay. We haul-out and repair sail and power yachts, Coast Guard vessels, ferries, tugboats, pilot boats and marine vessels of all kinds. Our shipping and receiving warehouse supports the production in the yard and controls the flow of material to individual projects. We are seeking a Material Control Specialist to ensure that the procurement of each project is well managed to eliminate non-value added time (NVAT) caused by purchasing delays.

This is a fulltime, non-exempt position. A successful Material Control Specialist will possess superior organizational and communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and prioritize. We need an individual with a “can-do” attitude and the ability to develop our procurement processes.

The responsibilities of the Material Control Specialist include the following:
1) PROCUREMENT
    a) Research & Procurement
     i) Identify, and generate a comprehensive list of, all material required for successful project completion; maintain this list throughout the duration of the assigned project.
     ii) Work with both internal and external resources to source required material required for the assigned project.
    iii) Identify best value vendors and completing the purchasing process for all identified material.
    b) Vendor and Delivery Coordination
     i) Coordinate material delivery with vendors and service providers.
     ii) Immediately notify the project manager and applicable department managers of any delay or change in material delivery, especially where an impact to production schedules is possible.
2) MATERIAL RECEIPT & DISTRIBUTION
     a) Receiving of purchased equipment
     i) Receive all delivered material for the assigned project.
     ii) Keep accurate records regarding the receipt and inventory of all material for the assigned project.
     iii) Ensure the proper storage of all onsite material, to best facilitate security and efficient retrieval by craft workers.
     b) Distribution of purchased material
     i) Under the direction of the PM and/or superintendent, efficiently distribute procured material to applicable craft workers.
     ii) Ensure that material is always staged at the worksite where and when it is required.
     c) Material Tracking
     i) Maintain accurate records for all material, through the entire procurement and distribution process.
     ii) As required, generate supplemental procurement & distribution tracking documents to aid in the efficient tracking of equipment.
     iii) Immediately report all known discrepancies regarding the procurement, storage and distribution of any material or equipment associated with the assigned project(s).
3) GENERAL PROJECT SUPPORT
     a) Under the direction of the PM, perform additional administrative tasks to support the assigned project(s).
     b) Provide assistance or support to project personnel or functions, as directed.
