Bay Ship & Yacht Co. is a shipyard located on the beautiful waterfront of San Francisco Bay in Alameda, CA. One of Bay Ship & Yacht's specialties is the construction and reconstruction of historic and traditional vessels.
Past Amazing Projects Include:
- The reconstruction of the 170' three-masted lumber schooner, C.A.Thayer, for the National Park Service.
- A complete rebuild of the scow schooner Alma (Often seen in San Francisco's Aquatic Park).
- A major refit of the 307' bark Balclutha (Another resident of Aquatic Park).
- The reproduction of the 120' brig Niagara.
- Extensive work on the WW ll submarine, the USS Pompanito, and
- The re-caulking of the USS Constitution.
- Bay Ship & Yacht also engages in major refits and alterations of modern yachts and commercial vessels including high-speed and light-weight craft constructed of wood and composites, and commercial vessels constructed of steel and aluminum.
We are currently seeking multiple skilled Marine Carpenters/Boat Builders/Shipwrights with some or all of the following skill sets: * Experience in removing, repairing, and installing teak decking systems (Note: Decking experience is a big plus!),
- Experience repairing, restoring, and constructing wooden vessels.
- Prior work in the building, construction, and/or marine repair industries, with experience using basic hand and power tools, and woodworking, cabinet making, flooring, decking, joining, sheet metal, and lagger experiences will all be considered.
All of this work is performed in the wonderful setting of our Alameda boatyard on the Oakland Estuary. The views are spectacular. Whether it's the stunning sunrise over the East Bay Hills, evening's sparkling lights on the Estuary, or those crystal clear days on San Francisco Bay, it's the best worksite in Northern California! Plus, you'll be joining some amazingly talented artisans who take great pride in their skills and abilities, and in sharing their knowledge. We are seeking applicants with experience in the areas listed above, along with the capacity and desire to work hard and learn the boat-building trade. Individuals with experience in the construction trade combined with a proven track-record of working in a team environment will be considered.
As is standard with most craft positions, candidates will be expected to eventually supply their own hand tools, and should be knowledgeable in their use and maintenance. Also, in this role there is a degree of clean-up expected of all workers in order to maintain a safe and neat work environment on the vessels and in the shop.
Bay Ship & Yacht offers an excellent benefits package, including: Profit Sharing, 401k retirement plan, paid Vacations and Holidays, and Health, Dental & Life Insurance. Compensation range is $30-$48 per hour based on experience.
