Bay Ship & Yacht Co., is a modern shipyard located on the water in Alameda where the Estuary meets San Francisco Bay. We provide dry-docking and repair services to most commercial and government vessels on the Bay, including tugboats, ferries, Coast Guard cutters, cruise ships, pilot boats, yachts, and marine vessels of all kinds. The great variety of marine vessels dry-docked at our shipyard provides challenging and interesting work, in one of the most beautiful work settings in the Bay Area.

Bay Ship has an immediate opening for Outside Machinist Trainees, who will work under the direction of their journeyman level Machinist or Project Lead. They will be responsible for providing support to their team in the installation and overhaul of shipboard machinery, including removal, repair/build, installation and alignment of propellors, shafts, bearings, engines, generators, and anchor windlasses.

Applicants who have Outside Marine Machinist trainee experience or have worked as entry level Millwrights, shipboard operating engineers or as field equipment repair technicians are encouraged to apply.

There are many situations -- such as understanding and following directions, emergencies, cooperative work assignments, or for supervisors to monitor an employee -- where a basic written and verbal knowledge of English as a common language is necessary to promote safety and efficiency. We therefore expect applicants to have this knowledge.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment medical evaluation at the company’s designated testing facility.
